The Science Behind the Metaphor
To avoid misunderstanding, let’s ground ourselves in what quantum mechanics says (and doesn’t say).
- Superposition: At the quantum level, particles can exist in multiple states simultaneously until "measured". Only when observed do they “collapse” into a definite outcome.
- Entanglement: Two quantum systems that interact can become entangled so that measuring one instantly gives you information about the other, even across distance.
- Decoherence/classical limit: In large, warm systems like human bodies, quantum effects typically “wash out” into classical physics. That’s why we don’t see cats in two places at once.
Some thinkers have tried to connect quantum phenomena to consciousness. For example, Penrose and Hameroff’s Orchestrated Objective Reduction (Orch-OR) theory suggests that quantum processes in microtubules inside neurones contribute to consciousness.
Others explore interpretations that fold the observer more deeply into the fabric of quantum theory.
But to be fair, many physicists caution that such theories remain speculative. Some argue that consciousness plays no fundamental role in quantum mechanics and that proposed links lack empirical support.
It’s always good to remember metaphor is not proof but metaphors can open new perspectives.

Don’t confuse the metaphor with literal physics. You can’t force quantum entanglement or collapse outcomes by wish alone. Quantum effects don’t scale to human decision-making in a simple way. Use the metaphor to guide, inspire, re-map your mindset, not as pseudoscience.
